January 2016 Edition  ♥  News We Can All Use

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.  For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ."  Corinthians 1:3-5

....a positive presence in our great community.

Breaking News!

Meet the newest friends of Blessings of Home...providing comfort...

Cindy Witherspoon has been crocheting for over 51 years.  Two years ago, she began teaching women (for free) how to crochet.  They meet every week to crochet baby blankets and hats for newborn babies at Winnie Palmer Hospital, and also have crocheted over 400 hats for children at McCoy and Shenandoah Elementary Schools.  They call themselves the Conway Community Crocheters.

Cindy recently posted a plea for donations of yarn.  The Blessings of Home Team contacted Cindy and donated yarn.  We also asked if the Conway Community Crocheters would consider crocheting hats for the homeless.  The answer was an enthusiastic “Yes!”    Cindy and her talented group are now hard at work creating hats that will be donated to Compassion Corner, so that the hats can be distributed to the homeless in downtown Orlando.

The Conway Community Crocheters are always in need of yarn, and they welcome new members who would like to learn to crochet.  What a great example of using the gifts that God gives us, not only to provide clothing and comfort to those who need it, but also to inspire others to do the same.   Do you have some yarn to donate?  Want to learn to crochet for a good cause?  Contact:

....the more resources available to increase our impactful giving, leading to the realization of the Blessings of Home team mission.

With the colder weather, Compassion Corner could use more coats to distribute to the homeless in downtown Orlando.  Please stop by anytime between 9-11 a.m., Monday through Thursday, to drop off a coat for someone in need.  Additionally, donations of bike locks, backpacks, rain ponchos, reading glasses, socks, travel-sized sewing kits, and toiletries are always needed.  Compassion Corner is a place where everyone is welcome.  This ministry is located on the property of Trinity Lutheran Church at 425 N. Magnolia Avenue, and is a respite “home” for those in Orlando who have no home. Through the leadership of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, many downtown churches collaborate to provide volunteers and supplies daily to support Compassion Corner’s outreach.  A unique gathering place for the homeless community of downtown Orlando, Compassion Corner is open throughout the week, providing Bible study, counseling, limited financial assistance and social service referrals. Would you like to volunteer your time or donate supplies?   Contact Compassion Corner

The Blessings of Home team volunteers with Conway Cares, packing bags of food for hungry children.  Conway Cares, a Servant’s Heart Center hunger solution, is dedicated to filling the weekend meal gap by providing the neediest children in the Conway Area of Orlando with a bag of food. Food insecure students are given a bag of food every Friday to help them get through the weekend. For many, their next meals will be the free school breakfast and lunch that they receive the following week. Students being assisted are at Shenandoah Elementary, Conway Elementary, Lake George Elementary, and Conway Middle Schools. Would you like to donate food or volunteer your time sorting and bagging food?   Contact Conway Cares
